Mission Stream - Joshua and Ruth Barron

The Barrons have served in Kenya since January 2007.  They work in partnership with the Community Christian Churches (CCC) of Kenya and Tanzania, mostly among the Maasai, Turkana, and Samburu people, and with the Maasai congregations of the Africa Inland Church (AIC) in Kenya.  They help these churches develop and implement culturally appropriate curricula in the local languages and also train Kenyans in how to do this themselves.  Their books have been published in the Maa, Turkana, and Swahili languages.  They speak Maa and Samburu and are learning Swahili.

Joshua and Ruth are also involved in work with the Community Christian Bible Training Institute (CCBTI), the Maasai Discipleship Training Institute (DTI), and Mission Institute East Africa (MIEA).  They continue to teach in the fields of discipleship and leadership development, Sunday school teacher training, and offering classes for Turkana and Maasai elders and pastors. They serve as mentors for church leaders and young couples.  Ruth is active in prayer ministry and prior to Corona pandemic restrictions, was active in prison ministry at the Langata Women’s Prison.  She also writes story-based math curricula for use in Kenyan elementary schools.  Joshua assisted The Bible Society of Kenya with the new Maa Bible translation (published in 2018).  Ruth leads a forum designed to address the trauma that results from misogynistic abuse.  Joshua is the co-founder and administrator of an African Christian Theology group that helps equip pastors in 32 countries across Africa.  He is also a member of the Africa Society of Evangelical Theology.
