Mission Stream - Joshua and Ruth Barron

Joshua and Ruth Barron, who are with Mission Stream, have faithfully served in Kenya since January 2007.

The Barrons partner with the Community Christian Churches (CCC) of Kenya and Tanzania, working primarily among the Maasai, Turkana, and Samburu peoples, as well as Maasai congregations of the Africa Inland Church (AIC) in Kenya. Their ministry focuses on discipleship, leadership development, and equipping local churches to thrive in culturally meaningful ways.

Their work includes:

  • Curriculum Development – Creating culturally appropriate discipleship materials in local languages (Maa, Turkana, and Swahili).
  • Leadership Training – Teaching pastors, elders, and church leaders in discipleship and ministry skills.
  • Bible Education – Serving with the Community Christian Bible Training Institute (CCBTI), Maasai Discipleship Training Institute (DTI), and Mission Institute East Africa (MIEA).
  • Translation & Theology – Assisting with the Maa Bible translation (published in 2018) and helping equip pastors across 32 African countries through an African Christian Theology network.
  • Mentoring & Family Ministry – Guiding young couples and church leaders; leading trauma-healing forums addressing abuse.
  • Prayer & Outreach – Engaging in prayer ministry and previously serving in prison ministry at Langata Women’s Prison.
  • Educational Resources – Writing story-based math curricula for Kenyan elementary schools.

Joshua and Ruth speak Maa and Samburu and are continuing to learn Swahili, allowing them to minister deeply within the communities they serve.

We are grateful to partner with the Barrons as they equip African church leaders, strengthen local congregations, and help advance the Gospel throughout East Africa.
